Glytone began as a small company with two pharmacists who were creating topical dermatological skincare products in collaboration with a dermatologist. The brand was built upon the innovation of free glycolic acid and its benefits to the skin. When the real benefits of glycolic acid were proved, demand for glycolic acid products skyrocketed. Since the market at that time was composed of neutralized glycolic acid products, the company decided to create free glycolic acid products. In 1992, the new products received a new brand name built around this unique innovation. The new name, Glytone, was chosen as it combined "GLYcolic Acid" and "improve the TONE of the skin."
